Carol is a beautiful fashionable Private Investigator who began her career in Whiz Comics #1 as the secretary to Dan Dare. They lived an exciting life, flying across the country in Dan's '300 mph private airplane'; in every adventure they seemed to be in a different state than the last adventure. In 1942 or so they flew to the South Seas to try to locate an artifact stolen from the San Diego Museum, the Crown of Scales, legendary symbol of lost Lumeria. Some Nazis attacked the group - a native shaman attempted to stop them but caught Dan, Carol, Lance O'Casey and some others in the same misfunctional time-stop spell, which lasted until they were freed in the early 1980s. In the story Cruisin' (linked below) Carol was exposed to a strange combination of fumes deep underground which gave her energy-control powers that she uses to become the super heroine Sunbeam.
