Green Lantern battles the Purple Pile-Driver (hired by Carl Ferris, who is controlled by the Puppet-Master working for Mr. Smith of Con-Trol) and Doctor Light II, who is controlled by the original Doctor Light (hired by Ben Bloch).   • Ben Bloch is secretly controlling Ferris Aircraft from prison using his criminal lawyer. Meanwhile, Mr. Smith is secretly controlling Carl Ferris by using the Puppet-Master (Jordan Weir). Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) is musing over his lack of a date on a Saturday night when he is contacted by April O'Rourke (now married to Clay Kendall), who seeks the help of Carol Ferris. When his power ring alerts him of trouble, Green Lantern battles the Purple Pile-Driver, who is easily defeated despite having an improved suit. Then Doctor Light II attacks him, but Green Lantern learns that her body is being used by the original Doctor Light, and he absorbs her body into his ring. The next morning, Bloch berates his lawyer for her failed scheme with Doctor Light. Meanwhile, Carl Ferris is disappointed that the Purple Pile-Driver failed to do any harm to Green Lantern, but he is still controlled by the Puppet-Master working for Mr. Smith of Con-Trol.
