  • July 26

    • Superman learns that Lex Luthor is behind his false memories and battles him. Luthor is abducted by Brainiac, and the two begin making plans to create an army of super-villains. Clark Kent is re-hired by GBS and the Daily Planet. [Superman #412, 413; Crisis #6]
    • Monitor's satellite is destroyed, and the heroes on it disappear, only to appear on Earth-X, Earth-4, and Earth-S in three days. [Crisis #6]
    • Swamp Thing learns from John Constantine that, after the Crisis is over, the battle for the spiritual plane will begin, as the Brujeria plan to destroy Heaven, and he must meet the Parliament of Trees next.   • July 28: Hades makes a pact with Ares to destroy Paradise Island and Mount Olympus, while the Anti-Monitor is revealed to be Hades' secret ally to attack Mount Olympus.   • July 29

    • Psi kills Leslie Larson, the non-powered clone of Supergirl, thinking she is her old enemy. Lesla-Lar, as an energy-being, enters her body and merges with her, planning to attack Supergirl herself with a new body, but ends up being changed instead. The merged Leslie Larson/Lesla-Lar exists in a state of confusion for several months as her Kryptonian abilities slowly return.   • July 31
    • Super-heroes and the people of Earth-1 mourn Supergirl. [Crisis #7]
    • Still mourning Supergirl, Superman is transported to Earth-Prime by the Superman Revenge Squad and meets that world's Superboy. [DC Comics Presents #87]
    • Ares and Hades attack Mount Olympus with an army of dead warriors, including Agamemnon, Achilles, Odysseus, and Ajax. Wonder Woman and the Amazons battle the dead warriors to protect Mount Olympus and the gods. Hades breaks his pact with Anti-Monitor and causes his army to return to death. Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor are married by Zeus on Mount Olympus [Wonder Woman #329]

  • August 1
    • Superman and Superboy of Earth-Prime travel to Earth-1, and Earth-Prime's Superboy disappears into a vortex. [DC Comics Presents #87, pp. 23-24; Superman #414, pp. 7-8]
    • The Superman Revenge Squad captures Superman and takes him to Rokyn. Defeating the Superman Revenge Squad, Superman retrieves Supergirl's body and delivers it to her parents, Zor-El and Allura, on Rokyn. [Superman #414]
    • Anti-Monitor appears in new armor. [Crisis #8]

    • Heroes travel to the dawn of time to face down the Anti-Monitor, while Villains travel to the Oa of 10 billion years ago. Mirror Master, Icicle, and Maaldor are killed by Krona. The Spectre, fueled by the spirits of the super-heroes, manages to marginally thwart Anti-Monitor's plans to eliminate all universes but the negative-matter universe. [Crisis #10]

  • August 5
    • The five Earths are merged as one for a period of twenty-four hours.
    • Superman of Earth-2 meets Superman of Earth-1 at the Daily Planet; together they meet with Flash of Earth-2 and Kid Flash, who explain that Earth's non-heroes no longer remember the multiple Earths; together they use the Cosmic Treadmill to prove that there are no more parallel worlds.     • Dolphin, Rip Hunter, Animal Man, Atomic Knight, Captain Comet, and Adam Strange travel to Brainiac's ship. [Crisis #11]

  • August 5-6, 1985: Steve Trevor, refusing to accept that his wife Diana (Wonder Woman) truly died in the Crisis, determines to return to Paradise Island and find a way to bring her back to life. In Washington, D.C, Steve Trevor summons Wonder Woman's invisible robot plane to him and uses it to travel to Paradise Island to bring Diana back. In the airspace over Paradise Island, he and the plane suddenly disappear just as the Earths are separated. [“Wonder Woman: Paradise Lost, Prologue”]
  • August 6: The Crisis over, Shazam of Earth-S separates the combined Earth into five Earths once more: Earth-1, Earth-2, Earth-S, Earth-X, and Earth-4. Memorial services begin for Earth's fallen heroes. Five Monitors are chosen for each Earth: Alexander Luthor for Earth-2, Harbinger for Earth-1, Shazam for Earth-S, Uncle Sam for Earth-X, and Son of Vulcan for Earth-4.
  • August 6-8: Kid Flash (Wally West) informs Barry Allen's parents of their son's death. He invites members of the JLA to Barry's funeral and the Flash's memorial. Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) returns to Earth. The next day, Barry Allen's remains are buried in a private ceremony. Wally West learns that Barry created a Flash ring and costume for him on the day Wally graduated from high school, intending that he succeed him as the Flash someday. The day after, the Flash's memorial service occurs, attended by the heroes of the world (the JLA, the Teen Titans, the Global Guardians, and many others). Superman speaks at the funeral. Wally West reveals that Barry Allen was the Flash to the world and assumes the identity of the Flash II. [“The Funeral of Barry Allen”]
  • August 6-8: Amethyst gives up her supposed birthright as a child of a Lord of Order to save the Gemworld and recovers from her blindness. Two days later, Amethyst returns to the Gemworld to help save it from the menace of the Starry Sky beings from another dimension. Dark Opal returns.   • Days after the Crisis, Rick Flag approaches Captain Comet with an idea of creating a new version of the Suicide Squad composed of rehabilitated super-villains. [“Captain Comet's Rehab Squad: Suicide Mission, Prologue”]
  • Three weeks after the end of the Crisis, Daily Star editor George Taylor welcomes columnist Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) back to work. [“Green Arrow: Back to the Crusades”]
  • Superwoman returns to the 20th century from the year 2865 A.D. to team up with Superman. The two foil a plot by Lex Luthor. Superwoman decides to remain in the 20th century as a heroine for at least a few years. [DC Comics Presents Annual #4]
  • Metamorpho is kidnapped while on his honeymoon, while Emily Briggs, a descendant of the ruler of the underground kingdom of Abyssia, is kidnapped by Abyssians to become their queen Batman and the Outsiders discover a tunnel leading to Abyssia and find Metamorpho and Emily, who is a pawn between two rulers of Abyssia who want to control her. Emily receives telepathic and telekinetic abilities and becomes Looker and helps the Outsiders stop the Abyssians' plan to conquer the world. Note: This story is erroneously placed during Christmas. In fact, it takes place in late summer during Metamorpho's honeymoon, since his wedding occurred in June. Looker joins the Outsiders shortly after this story. September

  • The Outsiders return in secret from Abyssia to clean up the gangs, but Geo-Force is angered to learn that Batman kept news of a new war in Markovia from him, and Batman leaves the team. The Outsiders go to Markovia and fight the Masters of Disaster and the Soviet forces there, led by Baron Bedlam, but are captured. Looker soon arrives in Markovia and frees them with the help of Windfall. After Bedlam completes his conquest of Markovia, the Outsiders prevent the execution of King Gregor. Bedlam creates a clone of Adolf Hitler who ends up committing suicide. Geo-Force kills Baron Bedlam. The Outsiders witness the marriage of King Gregor and Princess Ilona and are given funding from the Markovian government. After she receives an offer to join the Outsiders by Halo, Windfall leaves. The Outsiders return to Gotham City and plan to move to Los Angeles, California. Looker officially joins the team after she and her husband separate.   • Superman teams up with Harbinger, Pariah and Lady Quark to face a threat called Volt Lord. [DC Comics Presents #94]

  • Louise-L, a direct descendant of Supergirl, travels from a future era to the 20th century to become Supergirl II, adopting the name of Lydia-7 in honor of her now-deceased best friend, Lydia-T.

October

  • The E-1 mystics must stop an evil invasion from Hell. [“John Constantine, Hellblazer: The War of Darkness and Light”]
  • Doctor Polaris, Sonar and other villains attack the GLC citadel. [GLC #202 - 203]
  • Ra's al Ghul causes the entire criminal populations of both Arkham Asylum and Gotham Penitentiary to be set free. Batman and Robin II manage to recover the most dangerous super-villains initially, but several minor super-villains remain on the loose. Ra's al Ghul supposedly dies. [Batman #400]
  • Thul-Kar causes Bizarro World to self-destruct. Bizarro No. 1 sends Bizarro No. 1 Junior in a rocket to the planet's core before it implodes. The Phantom Zone is displaced by Aethyr (a heart-shaped crystalline being), who takes over Myyzptlk. Bizarro No. 1 dies after Mr. Mxyzpltk throws his head into the GBS building. Mxy drops Argo City, made of kryptonite and anti-kryptonite, onto Metropolis, which Superman manages to keep from being destroyed. The Phantom Zone is emptied of its villains, who rampage through Washington, D.C. Mxy's personality overcomes Aethyr, and he absorbs all the Phantom Zone villains into himself. Note: The Phantom Zone is only temporarily destroyed, as it still exists in the 30th century. [“Phantom Zone: The Final Chapter,” DC Comics Presents #97]
  • After Abby Cable is arrested and brought to Gotham City for trial, Swamp Thing attacks Gotham City, turning it into a gigantic greenhouse overgrown with plant life. Just as he is about to relent, Swamp Thing is seemingly destroyed by a secret government agency using a ray-gun invented by Lex Luthor. In fact, it creates a field crippling Swamp Thing's ability to transfer his consciousness to any other vegetation on Earth, and he is forced into space. He begins his trek through the stars, encountering life on other planets for the next two years. The out-of-control vegetation continues to wreak havoc on the city's infrastructure for the next few months as it is cleared. [Swamp Thing #53]
  • While on the trail of the Black Mask, Batman becomes overwhelmed by the loss of the last few months and has a breakdown. Temporarily retiring as Batman, he refocuses his energy as Bruce Wayne to help lead Gotham City's restoration and begins recruiting six heroes for a new Secret Six team to recapture the remaining prison escapees. [“Batman: Gotham Knights, Chapter 1”]
  • Superman, suffering from kryptonite poisoning, is reeling after his loss of his cousin. Superwoman and Supergirl II (Lydia-7) help him by recovering the Sword of Superman. They battle King Kosmos and transport him into a marvelous place using the Phantom Zone projector. [“Superman: Recovery”]

November

  • Kltpzyxm saves the Fifth Dimension by imprisoning Mxyzptlk-Aethyr and changes Bizarro No. 1 Junior into a Kryptonian-human hybrid, sending him to Earth where he is adopted by John and Mary Shakespeare, who name him Kent Shakespeare. [“Tales of the Bizarro World: The Last Bizarro”]
  • Kole is in a coma from her Crisis injuries. Dick Grayson infiltrates the Church of Blood in search of Raven and is captured. Donna Troy (Wonder Girl) plans to become the new Wonder Woman. Titans members: Flash II, Dick Grayson (Nightwing), Kole (in hospital, unconscious), Raven, Donna Troy (Wonder Girl). Villains: Mother Mayhem. Guest appearances: Terry Long.   • Superwoman fails to save a little boy's life but is convinced to remain a hero by his mother. [“Superwoman: A Bad Day”]
  • November 19: President Reagan and Premier Gorbachev hold a historic five-hour summit conference in Geneva, Switzerland, the first meeting in six years between the leaders of the United States and the Soviet Union.

December

  • Rick Flag, director of Metahuman Rehabilitation Agency (MRA) forms the Rehab Squad with Captain Comet as field team leader. In its first mission, the team fails to prevent the theft of the Cardialink at STAR Labs. Meanwhile, Vivian d'Aramis (the Crimson Fox) is captured by her sister Constance, under control of the mysterious Achilles Dahmmon. Captain Comet and his team prevent the kidnapping of the Cardialink creator, then discover Metallo is behind its theft. The team saves Superman after the Cardialink causes the entire planet to emit kryptonite radiation, and Comet removes it. Meanwhile, a few female members are kidnapped by Doctor Psycho, also working for Dahmmon. Rehab Squad members: Cheetah II, Dolphin, Golden Glider, Killer Moth, Mayflower, Starman (Will Payton; joins the team). Villains: Doctor Psycho, Dynamic, Hector Hammond (alias Achilles Dahmmon), Metallo, Ultimate, the Vanquisher, Silver Swan.   • Batman rejoins the Outsiders and encourages Robin II to join the Titans, temporarily leaving the problems of Gotham to the GCPD and his new team, the Secret Six. [“Batman: Gotham Knights, Chapter 1”]
  • While the JLA is in disarray, Maxwell Lord forms his own team called the Conglomerate, and Batman investigates it. After the Conglomerate is introduced at a press conference, the JLA holds its own press conference to introduce the new team, blending old and new members. Nubia becomes Wonder Woman II. Meanwhile, a transformed Despero heads for Earth to get revenge on the team, angering Lobo and alerting Adam Strange. JLA members: Black Canary, Elongated Man (Ralph Dibny), Flash II (joins the team), Green Arrow, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Hawkman, Hawkwoman, Martian Manhunter (J'onn J'onzz), Steel (Hank Heywood III), Wonder Woman II (Nubia; joins the team), Zatanna Zatara. There the Titans are attacked by the Children of the Light, while Doctor Light is kidnapped by the Children of the Sun. Roy Harper learns he has a nine-month-old daughter named Lian. Lilith Clay leaves Mount Olympus to stop the Children of the Sun and recruits Changeling and Cyborg, who have learned the missing Mento is in Greece. The Titans also track Doctor Light's transporter signal to Greece. Tom learns from Green Lantern that Guy Gardner has joined the Conglomerate and that Green Lantern will join the Ferris employees after the JLA's press conference. Tom watches the JLA press conference and afterward meets Hal Jordan at Ferris Aircraft, where owner Carl Ferris announces Mr. Smith and Con-Trol now own controlling stock in Ferris Aircrafts, while Carl is kept on to manage the operations.   • Rick Flag introduces Captain Comet's Rehab Team at a press conference where a statement by Superman attests the team saved his life. Meanwhile, Rip Hunter claims he can go back in time to save everyone who died in the Crisis. After Simon Stagg is kidnapped by the Crimson Fox, the Outsiders investigate. After a brief misunderstanding, the two teams track down the kidnap victims to Achilles Dahmmon, who is revealed to be Hector Hammond when they defeat him. The kidnapped women defeat Doctor Psycho. Stagg forces the Crimson Fox to work for him. Dick Grayson uses Azrael against Brother Blood, exposed as having faked his death, to defeat him and frees Raven. Meanwhile, Jimmy Olsen tracks down the same game in Central City and ends up saving the life of the new hero Argus, and the two are turned into golden statues by Goldface. Metamorpho, Geo-Force, Halo, and Looker of the Outsiders battle the villains Goldface and Rayburn but are defeated and brought to Gorilla City, where they meet the villains' employer, Gorilla Grodd. After Grodd uses an Anti-Green Lantern Corps power ring, Argus escapes, and the heroes battle the villains with the help of Rayburn (a brain-damaged scientist), who explodes in the sky with Grodd in his arms.   • Continuity cop Jonni DC, frustrated by Ambush Bug's zaniness, plans a more permanent solution to get him out of her hair. Superman spots Ambush Bug and chases after him. Jonni DC teams up with Argh!yle! to shoot Ambush Bug into space. Cheeks the Toy Wonder accidentally causes the Bizarro duplicator ray to make a Bizarro duplicate of Superman, who in turn makes Bizarro duplicates of Ambush Bug and Cheeks. Jonni DC gasses all the Bizarros, and she and Superman load them onto Argh!yle!'s spacecraft and launch them into space.   • Superman and the Green Lantern Corps of Earth are busy getting rid of the last of the kryptonite dust in Metropolis as well as the millions of Kryptonian corpses from Argo City. Clark Kent (Superman) quits his job at WGBS and becomes a freelance journalist at the Daily Planet. Jeff Richardson of Nomed Ventures (secretly an agent of Ra's al Ghul) asks Perry White's advice on buying the newspaper. As the U.S. Army transports large amounts of kryptonite to a secure facility, three villains working independently (Lex Luthor, Kobra, and Ra's al Ghul) attempt to intercept it en route, but only Luthor succeeds. During the next shipment, Ra's al Ghul succeeds. Kobra learns Luthor stole the first shipment and attacks his compound on Black Island, but Luthor strands Kobra in the L-Zone and masquerades as Kobra himself. As Kobra, Luthor and Ra's al Ghul combine their forces in a plan to turn Metropolis into kryptonite. Secret agent Cory Renwald warns the government about Kobra's plans. When the villains' forces attack Metropolis, Superman and Prof. Bolden, with Firestorm's help, nullify the kryptonite transformation and free Metropolis of all kryptonite. Superman and the Green Lantern Corps defeat Kobra's forces and capture Luthor. Arisia then traveled to the JLA satellite, where she told Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) about the invasion, and he planned to alert the JLA, but instead Despero attacks the team and keeps them busy during the invasion.     • Despero breaks through the JLA satellite, bringing Green Lantern with him down to the Earth. Adam Strange arrives in Australia and heads for the nearest JLA transporter. In Georgia, Despero builds a pyre and prepares for the JLA's arrival. The JLA attacks Despero, and an hour later, the Conglomerate head to Georgia. Adam Strange also reaches Georgia.     • While living in Dallas, Air Wave II fights an old foe of Batman's called the Signalman. During the battle, he is contacted by Harbinger, who asks for his help against the impending invasion. Air Wave II brings the subdued Signalman along with him and meets with the world heroes in Washington, D.C., where Captain Comet assigns him to a team to liberate Australia. Air Wave II manages to shut down the energy field encasing it, but he disappears, only to reappear in Sonar's laboratory in Modora, where he is kept a prisoner for months until the Titans West free him much later on.     • Adam Strange reaches the JLA and learns what happened just before Despero knocks him far off, where he meets Batman and Looker. Superman, Aquaman, and the Conglomerate also arrive. Despero attempts to recreate the Flame of Pytar to take over the world. As Superman and the Conglomerate attack Despero, he kills the Beetle. Under Sargon the Sorcerer's spell of concealment, Batman and the others rescue the beaten JLAers. Martian Manhunter removes the mental blocks on Lobo's mind, allowing him to fight Despero. After another battle, Despero appears to win and even conquer the Earth, but this is an illusion caused by Martian Manhunter. In the Midwestern United States, a hitchhiking Hank Hall saves a man from a mob trying to kill him because they think he's an alien. When the man turns out to be a shapeshifting Durlan scout, Hank becomes Hawk and is forced to kill him and burn the house down so his body can't be found by the townspeople.   • The Enchantress gathers a new Secret Society of Super-Villains. A new hero called the Golden Wasp (actually Killer Moth) debuts in Bludhaven. Mayflower and the Cheetah II, on leave in England, battle the Floronic Man, who is revealed to be Mayflower's father and who abducts her. The Rehab Squad tracks down Mayflower to an old Los Angeles prison. There, the Enchantress places the Tornado Tyrant into a new android body built by T.O. Morrow, bring the Red Tornado back to life. The Floronic Man changes Mayflower into the plant-being called Blossom. The Rehab Squad defeats the Enchantress before she can complete the Conjunction, which would replace laws of science with magic. The villains escape, leaving a damaged Red Tornado behind them, which Blossom is able to help fix by communing as an elemental with the Tornado Tyrant.   • February 8: Darkseid unleashes Lady Death on Earth. Superman battles her in Smallville, while Lana Lang gets a story allowing her to win her WGBS job back. Superman follows Lady Death into the 30th century, where he and the Legion of Super-Heroes battle Lady Death, who is unable to bring herself to kill Brainiac 5. The 30th century Darkseid sends her back to the 20th century. Superman is joined by the supposed JSA (who are really Tannarak and a group of Ivo-droids), and they travel to Apokolips to battle Lady Death and Darkseid's minions. Returning to Earth, Lady Death's mind is freed, and Tannarak posing as the Phantom Stranger reveals that she is the real Supergirl, and that her clone was the one who died in the Crisis.   • Bludhaven's new hero Golden Wasp (Killer Moth) fights Weather Wizard. Meanwhile, the Rehab Squad encounters several forgotten heroes from the past of Earth-Two: Crimson Avenger II (Albert Elwood), Joanie Swift, Nadir (master of magic), Robotgirl, Roh Kar (manhunter from Mars), Tharka the Superwoman. These heroes were plucked from time by Atoman during the Crisis and forced to work for him. The team frees them, and all but Tharka decide to stay on Earth as new heroes.   • Nubia and Hippolyta realize that Wonder Woman's invisible robot plane, missing since the Crisis, is gone from this world completely (as is Steve Trevor). Donna Troy returns to Paradise Island, only to learn that Hippolyta has recreated the infant Diana from clay. Mars and Callisto, planning to abduct baby Diana, recruit the Crimson Centipede to attack Paradise Island. Donna confronts Nubia on the JLA satellite about her using the name Wonder Woman when they learn of the attack and team up to defeat the villain. Meanwhile, Callisto attempts to abduct baby Diana but is stopped by Knockout of the Secret Society of Super-Villains, disguised as an Amazon. Donna takes the name of Artemis as her superhero name.   • The Masters of Disaster (with new member Syonide) accept a job for Kyack, leader of the underground people. After Cave Carson and his team are captured by the powerful Prince Raynor of the Inner-World, who is mind-controlled by Starstriker, the Outsiders go to find them. Meanwhile, Looker and the other female Outsiders (with new member Windfall) are transported to the subterranean land of Abyssia, which is caught in a war between the evil Kyack and good King Nobic (father of Raynor). The Masters of Disaster and a clone of Baron Bedlam capture the female Outsiders, while the male Outsiders find Cave Carson's Mighty Mole. They are attacked by Raynor, until his sister Princess Vee-Ra intervenes. For different reasons Kyack, Bedlam, and Starstriker each want the power of the radioactive meteor that acts as the sun of Nobic's Inner-World land. The male Outsiders free the female Outsiders and Raynor, who destroys Baron Bedlam's clone. After Carson is freed, the Outsiders return to the surface world, with the powerful Princess Vee-Ra as their newest member. [“The Outsiders: Outsiders and Insiders”]
  • Valor (Lesla-Lar) learns how she gained a body with Captain Comet's help. Jimmy Olsen, tracking down TNT and Dan the Dyna-Mite for a Daily Planet story, teams up with Valor and watch as Dolphin and private investigator Angel O'Day are both kidnapped by different parties mistaking each woman for the other. They learn Doctor Cyber wanted Dolphin, while Doctor Phaeton wanted Angel. In Tritonis, Atlantis, Phaeton explains that Dolphin is Angel's older sister Angela, whom he transformed into a water-breather. After the heroes defeat Phaeton and his super-villain thugs, Jimmy meets Dan Dunbar (Dyna-Mite) and brings him to the surface. Interviewing him, Jimmy learns from Dan how Sargon the Sorcerer came to Earth-1 from Earth-2 in 1968 and learns the reason why Dan (living in Atlantis) had to separate himself from TNT (living in Kandor).   • After attacking a major polluter called Monarch Chemical in his columns, Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) is left the company by the owner in her will. Oliver vows to find the people responsible for the pollution. An ex-Marine named Peter St. John offers him a flying grappler he developed. Note: The plot threads begun in this story have not been picked up again. Presumably, sometime after this story, Green Arrow discovers the connection between Monarch's pollution problem and Methuselah Enterprises, then Oliver Queen steps down as president of Monarch in order to return to writing columns for the Daily Star.   • March 19: As four JLAers gather in Central City to honor Barry Allen's birthday, they are attacked by creatures sent by the Key, who wants Zatanna's magic to cure him. Instead, the Flash II cures the Key. Meanwhile, on the planet Angor, a tyrant realizes that the Key has stolen energy from his Zodiac Key weapon.   • Captain Comet leads a new Rehab Squad team of hardened supervillains while his usual team is on leave. Assisted by Christopher Chance (the Human Target), the team battles the Force of July and exposes its employer as a Saudi oil minister who wants to profit on a war in the Middle East. After the new team recruits attempt to escape, Captain Comet and Moonbow subdue them. Blossom splits from Mayflower's body and leaves as a separate being.   • Lesla-Lar (Valor) and Lydia-7 (Supergirl II) travel to the planet Rokyn (New Krypton), where Lesla learns she is Lesla Nim-El, the daughter of Nim-El (Jor-El's twin brother). They stop a plot by the Lar family to take over Rokyn, and Lesla gains energy powers. Meanwhile, Mr. Mxypltk is separated from Aethyr, the Phantom Zone villains are sent to Rokyn, and Mon-El is sent back to the restored Phantom Zone. Former Phantom Zone prisoners Gen. Dru-Zod and Faora Hu-Ul make plans to gain power on Rokyn, Nam-Ek just wants acceptance, and Zo-Mar begins trying to conquer the planet. Yllura gains a super-power uniform from Zor-El, while Todra Than-Ol becomes the Green Lantern of Rokyn, and they team up with Valor to stop Zo-Mar. Lydia-7 returns to Earth alone, as Valor decides to stay on Rokyn. Meanwhile, Jasma, the young daughter of Kara Zor-El and Salkor, is revealed to exist on the planet Makkor.   • The U.S. President asks Rick Flag to form a secret directive within the Metahuman Rehabilitation Agency called Task Force X, or Extreme Justice, for high-risk, covert missions. A clone of Manhunter (Paul Kirk) is the field leader of the Extreme Justice team, while Amanda Waller is the administrator of Task Force X. The first recruits are the Bronze Tiger, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and Deathstroke the Terminator. Together, Extreme Justice infiltrates a militant cult called the Church of the Determined Spirit and discovers Hector Hammond is behind it. The team defeats the cult, while Hammond is imprisoned in space by the Green Lantern Corps. [“Extreme Justice: Task Force X”]

  • In an untold story, the New Titans (with Robin II) battle Brain Storm in an unknown nation overseas. [“Batman: Gotham Knights”]
  • Batman captures Crazy-Quilt and Signalman. Robin II, returning from a Titans case, learns that Nocturna is still alive in Qurac and takes the Batplane to find her. Batman has Batwoman, Man-Bat, and Ragman use Mister Freeze's ice gun to put an end to Gotham City's plant problems. In Qurac, Robin II is captured by the Joker, who runs a TV game show where people vote whether to kill or save Nocturna. Robin II and Batman defeat the Joker and return to the U.S. only to witness the apparent destruction of the Daily Planet building. [“Batman: Gotham Knights”]
  • The Daily Planet is expanded into a national newspaper. Superman battles a new super-villain called MadFire, who is secretly equipped by Ra's al Ghul with Luthor's technology. MadFire destroys the Daily Planet building, but Ra's al Ghul had secretly switched it with a duplicate building and shrunk the original using Brainiac's shrinking ray.   • The Parasite, changed during the Crisis, attacks Ferris Aircraft to lure Green Lantern in order to absorb his ring's energy. After learning that the Parasite simply wants to return to his family on an alien planet, he starts to bring him home but turns back when he hears of the Daily Planet's apparent destruction, and Katma Tui completes the journey with the Parasite.   • Batman arrives in Metropolis to help Superman. Together, the JLA and the Titans discover thanks to Nightwing and Robin II that the Daily Planet building still exists and was shrunken in size. Changeling is transported to the Daily Planet building using the JLA satellite's transporter and sends a signal to the satellite. The JLA arrives and battles Ra's al Ghul and his forces, but the villain and his daughter Talia escape. Superman and Robin II restore the Daily Planet building. Dick Grayson (Nightwing) and Bruce Wayne (Batman) reconcile their differences, and Nightwing makes Gotham his home once again. [“Justice League of America: The Planet Seekers”]
  • Tom Kalmaku meets Dr. Kimiyo Hoshi (Doctor Light II) of Japan as she arrives at Ferris Aircraft and immediately begins work on Tom's light-based engine. [“Green Lantern: Power and Light”]
  • Lex Luthor and his henchman Louto escape from prison, while Kobra has by now escaped from the L-Zone with Angela Blake and resides in Calcutta. Shortly after, Luthor arranges for Black Hand to be seemingly killed in a knife-fight in prison. [“Superman: Kryptonite City, Epilogue”; “Justice League of America: Pawns of the Power Pirate”]
  • In an untold story, Mister Freeze, Captain Cold, and the Weather Wizard team up to paralyze Star City with a massive blizzard in April. The JLA battles the super-villains while the Flash II is forced to spend an extra shift on monitor duty. Note: This story can only have taken place in April, 1986.   • Captain Comet helps Glynix of Liquel II by fighting in gladiatorial games to save her world, defeating Vartox. He learns that the games are staged by two aliens posing as Darkseid and frees the planet. On Earth, Goldstar (Karin Grace), under the influence of the Star-Band, attacks the Rehab Squad and is only stopped when Rick Flag declares his love for her. Melisande throws the Star-Band into the sea. In space, Vartox convinces Captain Comet to visit his adopted planet of Tynola, where the two battle Starbreaker. Maxima and Melisande, following Comet's trail, arrive for the battle. Maxima decides to stay on Tynola to be with Vartox. [“Captain Comet's Rehab Squad: Maxima Impact”]
  • The Flash II brings Frances Kane to Gotham City to meet Nightwing and her distant relative, Betty Kane (Bat-Girl). After Frances is kidnapped by four mind-controlled men, Nightwing and Bat-Girl track them down to an old lair of Doctor Polaris. After defeating the villain, they are captured by Queen Bee, who used the mind-controlled men to lure them into defeating Polaris. Together, he and Frances are used as a power source for the Queen Bee to regain her mobility. Bat-Girl manages to break through to Doctor Polaris' normal personality, Dr. Neal Emerson, and the heroes defeat Queen Bee. Betty becomes Batgirl and plans to get a new costume.   • Exposed to red kryptonite, Clark Kent (Superman) loses his powers and becomes an African-American man. Traveling first to Atlanta, Georgia, and then the town of Gadley, Clark experiences racism as a black man. Learning of a white supremacist group in Forton County called the Phantom Empire, he makes inquiries about going there, but everyone he meets warns him to stay away. Finally, a corrupt sheriff delivers him to the Phantom Empire, who attempt to lynch him. Clark's powers briefly return at that moment, and he apprehends them and calls the FBI, only to find his powers leave him once more. He returns to Gadley and then to Atlanta, frustrated with his inability to make a lasting change against racial prejudice.   • Green Lantern battles the Purple Pile-Driver (hired by Carl Ferris, who is controlled by the Puppet-Master working for Mr. Smith of Con-Trol) and Doctor Light II, who is controlled by the original Doctor Light (hired by Ben Bloch).   • After Lois Lane is kidnapped by the Puzzler, Superman enlists the Riddler's help to decipher the clues to track them down, only to learn that the villains are working together. [“DC Comics Presents: Superman and the Riddler: A Puzzle a Day Keeps Superman at Bay”]
  • Green Lantern heads to Central City to talk with the Pied Piper in an attempt to find out what happened to his cousin Air Wave II (Hal Jordan) during the alien invasion in January. He and the Flash II help save the Pied Piper's parents from a storm and battle the villainous Typhoon. Green Lantern then travels to Australia in search of his cousin but only ends up battling a mutant named Aurora. [“Green Lantern: Fury and Sound”; “Green Lantern: Rumble Down Under”]
  • From behind the scenes, Lex Luthor manipulates eight obscure super-villains – the Human Flame, Konrad Kaslak, Andre LeBlanc, Professor Menace, Rainbow Archer, the Sea Thief, Spellbinder, the Swan-Maiden – into attacking JLAers using energy-siphoners based on the Black Hand's device. While the devices siphon Green Lantern's residual power ring energy from various JLAers – Aquaman, Batman, Black Canary, the Elongated Man, the Flash II, Green Arrow, Hawkman, Hawkwoman, the Martian Manhunter, the Red Tornado, Wonder Woman II, Zatanna – the devices also kill each super-villain once activated.   • Golden Glider is kidnapped by Flash's Rogues Gallery, who use a false Golden Glider to commit robberies across the country in a scheme to turn her back to crime. The Female Furies retrieve Gilotina and injure Melisande. Captain Comet and the Rehab Squad battle the Rogues and a new Mirror Master (the Batman villain called Mirror Man), who sends Cheetah II, Dolphin, Golden Glider, Mayflower, and Moonbow into the Mirrorverse for a few moments during which time hours pass for them. They return changed and go on a rampage, while the Golden Wasp (the former Killer Moth) is released after having been captured earlier. With his help and the help of Nadir, Captain Comet manages to change the women back to normal. But Golden Glider and Starman both quit the team.   • Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen visit the Unknown Soldier's grave at Arlington Cemetery, where as Superman he finally meets the Unknown Soldier shortly before the Memorial Day weekend. [“Superman: Welcome Home, Soldier”]
  • After Midway City is hit by a terror plague, Hawkman and Hawkwoman realize it is a call for help from Rann, which is attacked by Nekron, the fear parasite that once fought the JLA. Assisting Adam Strange, the Hawks transport Nekron to Apokolips, where it explodes after overdosing on fear. [“Hawkman and Hawkwoman: Wings Against the Night”]

June

  • While still on Rann, Hawkman and Hawkwoman investigate strange disappearances and are suddenly transported to Mongolia on Earth, where they are captured by Sanballa, an ancient wizard from Rann. Adam Strange manages to transport himself there as well and meets Black Condor II (Richard Grey, the teenaged Earth-1 version of the Earth-X hero). Together, the heroes defeat Sanballa, who dies of old age. [“Hawkman and Hawkwoman: The Bermuda Triangle of Rann”]
  • Superman battles Lex Luthor, who possesses the improved power of Green Lantern and who reveals himself to be behind the deaths of the minor super-villains. Superman overcomes Luthor's willpower and recaptures him. [“Justice League of America: Pawns of the Power Pirate, Chapter 3”]
  • After Gen. Logan makes unreasonable demands of Captain Comet, he and Dolphin quit the Metahuman Rehabilitation Agency, effectively ending the Rehab Squad. Superman, Batman, and Green Lantern help Captain Comet set up a new team of Forgotten Heroes on the island of Vumania. Black Condor II, the Enchantress, Joanie Swift, Nadir, and Robotgirl join the team. Gen. Logan secretly assembles a group of forgotten villains – Black Spider, Decay, the Huntress, the Invisible Destroyer, the Sportsmaster, Star-Man, Star Sapphire II, the Wizard (secretly the Warlock of Ys) – that attacks and is defeated by the new team.   • On Rokyn, Nam-Ek becomes a superhero known as the Rondor. General Zod, Jax-Ur, and Va-Kox begin cultivating drugs from Earth on Rokyn, which begins a new crime wave. Meanwhile, Faora Hu-Ul goes on a killing spree, attracting the attention of Nightwing II and Flamebird II. Teaming up with the Rondor, the heroes capture Faora and soon learn the location of Zod's operations. Zod and his allies set up elsewhere, and the demand for more drugs grows.   • After Green Lantern is abducted and forced to serve the wizard Myrwhydden in a microcosmic world, several JLAers – Batman, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Hawkman, and Red Tornado – are summoned to rescue him. After the team frees Green Lantern and defeats Myrwhydden, they also free Doctor Light II, who has been trapped there all this time. [“Green Lantern: The Fellowship of Justice”]
  • After the entire world is placed under a sleeping spell by a combination of the black mercy plant with an alien mind-scanning device, Hawkwoman finds herself the only person on Earth who is awake, being immune to the spell because of her use of the Absorbascon. After discovering that mind-controlled super-villains are taking advantage of the situation, she learns that Syryna and Mongul are behind the sleeping spell and battles several mind-controlled members of the JLA and the Outsiders. Finally, she causes the dreams of Earth's five billion people to overwhelm Mongul and ends the sleeping spell. She returns home just as Hawkman returns from the planet Rann. After some friction between Ollie and Wally, the heroes team up to take down Reverend Green of the Church of Nature, who turns out to be the Matter Master.   • Arisia and Superman each fight the other while thinking they are fighting someone else entirely. A villainess named Shyla Kor-Onn and her accomplice Rog-Tah use a Supergirl look-alike to lure Valor, Todra, and Yllura (now called Ultra Girl) in order to steal the latter's super-power outfit. Captain Comet is revealed to have been replaced by a Martian shortly after the Crisis in 1985, and this Martian Captain Comet sacrifices his life to save the world. After the Red Brotherhood is defeated, several humans impersonated by Martians are freed, including the real Captain Comet. J'onn J'onzz proposes to Nubia (Wonder Woman).   • Superman learns that a Martian actor named H'ney (who calls himself Mimic) has impersonated several villains and heroes over the years (occasionally with a partner until he died), explaining why they acted out of character in rare instances. A Martian teenaged girl named M'gann M'orzz is revealed to have been impersonating Supergirl II (Lydia-7) for a long time, possibly even since her arrival in the 20th century.
