August, 1985: Metamorpho is kidnapped while on his honeymoon, while Emily Briggs, a descendant of the ruler of the underground kingdom of Abyssia, is kidnapped by Abyssians to become their queen. Note: This story is erroneously placed during Christmas. In fact, it takes place in late summer during Metamorpho's honeymoon, since his wedding occurred in June. • August, 1985: Halo has her long blond hair cut short. A bank clerk named Emily Briggs visits Tatsu Yamashiro (Katana) to talk, while emissaries of Abyssia wait for Emily to leave so they can adbuct her. While Rex Mason (Metamorpho) is on his honeymoon with Sapphire Stagg Mason in Switzerland, Metamorpho foils the kidnapping of Prince Hallam by figures from Abyssia, but they take control of him. In Gotham City, Emily Briggs is kidnapped, and Katana and the Outsiders visit Emily's husband Greg. Batman thinks Emily may have been kidnapped by men working for Morgan Jones, but they soon discover Jones' men were mind-controlled.
