As Captain X, Dare uses a British accent as part of his cover identity as an English adventurer and is only an honorary member of the Royal Air Force. He is secretly funded by an espionage agency known only as the Group, originally formed to secretly provide Great Britain and the R.A.F. with assistance against the Germans during a time when the United States was still officially neutral.
