As Captain X, Dare uses a British accent as part of his cover identity as an English adventurer and is only an honorary member of the Royal Air Force. He is secretly funded by an espionage agency known only as the Group, originally formed to secretly provide Great Britain and the R.A.F. with assistance against the Germans during a time when the United States was still officially neutral. In his first recorded case, Captain X stops a plot by the Germans to dam the English Channel using a chemical called Viscid, which forms into a powerful metal upon contact with water. //Note: Captain X is already publicly known by the time of this adventure, indicating he has had at least one previous case.
